Yes, people. Today is International Literacy Day. It was started by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization, is a specialized agency of the United Nation. Its stated purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and the human rights freedom UN Charter and fundamental established on November 16, 1945.
September 8 was proclaimed International Literacy Day by UNESCO on November 17, 1965. It was first celebrated in 1966. Its aim is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies. On International Literacy Day each year, UNESCO reminds the international community of the status of literacy and adult learning globally.
