13/30 (Why I Write)

When and Why I Write

I write

when I’m sad,

when I’m happy.

I write

to express my anger,

my hurt,

my love,

Myself.

I write

because there were many times

I didn’t want to;

when I couldn’t.

My voice didn’t seem to matter.

Silenced by those who

thought themselves more important.

Speaking over me like my tinny tiny voice

is unimportant.

But, this tinny tiny voice matters.

I matter.

I write to speak my truth.

I write to voice the words of the voiceless.

I write to tell the truth and shame the devil.

I write to get it out of my head and onto the page.

If not, I fear it may drive me crazy!
